While I'm on the subject, I would like to thank Ian Donohoe from Sydney, Aus. for creating and making available his ADE program for altering the Flight Dynamics of Flight Simulator planes.

Beechcraft C17b by Tom Miller

The Staggerwing is one of the most beautiful and efficient of all the biplanes. Elegance in
the air.
To quote the Book "Biplanes" by Michael F. Jerram :
"Climb aboard through the single rear door and make your way up the sloping floor
to the cockpit, heavy with the scent of old airplane, a blend of leather, oil, gasoline,
dope and a whiff of the past. And all that room! A wide bench seat for three in the back,
and individual seats up front. The cockpit is pure 1930's, haphazardly arranged with cranks, levers, wheels, taps and knobs placarded with varying degrees of instruction, caution, advice and consolation and a big half-moon shaped control wheel mounted on Beech's familiar 'throwover' arm so that the aeroplane may be flown from either seat. With 450 hp a yard ahead of your knees you do not attempt conversation. However, the noise quickly subsides as the retractable undercarriage comes up beneath the cabin floor and the Staggerwing loafs upward in a leisurly 1,000 feet per minute climb. It will go up to 26,000 feet or beyond- jet country- if you wish, where few ancient biplanes are seen and cruise at 180 mph for five hours with five people and their baggage aboard, in comfort all too rare today, then land at tiny grass airstrips which many modern lightplanes could never get into." The aerodynamic design was so clean that the pilots manuel recommends an immediate 500-ft CLIMB if the engine died, trading airspeed for altitude while you sort things out.
This Model is somewhat of a composite of the various C17 configurations.
The plane seems to have started out with a 225 hp Jacobs L-4mb and had a P&W 450 Hp engine later. My model has about 300Hp and about 3,350 lbs in wt. This gives about 200 Kts cruise, good response and a joy to fly.
Do watch out for that crosswind at Meigs just before take off. If it seems to change course at this time pull back hard to get off the ground and not ground loop.
It is responsive to the controls, yet it needs to land at about 50 to 55 Kts.
I realize that the visual has a few flaws but the model is quite complicated to build as can be seen in the file sizes.

ENJOY
