The model has been edited to simulate engine and aircraft performance
as close as possible to the real one. Feedback was provided by an
active Olympic Aviation Dornier 228 pilot.

Landing: 90kts Flaps 2
Landing STOL: 85kts Flaps 3 Power idle at 50ft AGL

Known bugs:

Due to software limitations fuel consumption and hence aircraft's range
is not identical to the real Dornier 228. The range is limited
to ~240 nm.

Also for the same limitations when the aircraft initially positions, it starts
1ft above ground level and when Pause or Slew are released it bounces onto the
ground, rarely resulting into a crash. If you are on cockpit view the effect is
minimised since on external view it seems to be worse.

The usual FS98 bug for some aircraft which start loosing altitude by ~500ft/min
during autopilot turns.

Why is the Do228 famous in Greece ?
-----------------------------------

The Dornier although the smallest in commercial service in OAv, it is
quite famous.

Every time a seriously ill or injured person is rushed into Athens from
a remote island (airport) and something goes wrong the Do228 is on the 9
o' clock news. It is easily turned into air ambulance by removing some
rear seats.

Last year a patient lost his life while waiting for air transportation
to Athens. He never got it because the company's policy is to decline
transportation to patients with contagious illnesses. The whole
discussion was whether it was - or not - contagious.

Two years ago, the pilot of a regular Do228 flight returning to Athens
found that the nose wheel would not come out. He requested a retarding
foam bed on Athens Rwy 33L while circling above to burn fuel. The news
cameras had all the time to get ready to film the emergency landing.
The subject got really popular when Athens declared unable to apply the
foam due to technical reasons (the truck was not working). The cameras
had again time to get set at Tanagra AFB where the plane was diverted
since they (Tanagra) declared able to apply fire retarding foam. We all
watched the Dornier on a perfect emergency landing in two wheels and the
pilot was interviewed like a hero. What no one understood was that in
Tanagra they just sprayed the runway with fire extinguishing foam with
the fire engine, something that could be done anywhere. Later Athens
airport stated that fire retarding foam and the machine it applies it,
are recommended by ICAO and not compulsory by the CAA, so the airport
could still operate safely (and legaly) without it.

Three years ago the pilot of a regular OAv flight Do228 landing in Paros
island runway 18 came "low & slow" and hit the main landing gear just 1m
before the runway threshold which (the runway) ends sharply at both
ends. Both main wheels broke off and the aircraft slid for a few
hundred meters on its belly. Noone got hurt, except a (fat!) lady who,
although the aircraft came to a safe stop, in her panic she rushed to
jump out from the emergency door and broke her arm.
