SECOND PATCH

This new patch includes the required alterations when using a Force Feedback joystick and replaces the old one. We advise you to install the patch whether or not you have Force Feeback since in this second version we added new gauges to fix some autopilot issues as described in the AP section at bottom, also the suspension bumps are further improved to be compatible with, we hope, every system.

AIRCRAFT INSTALLATION

The automatic installation as described in the readme file would allow a perfect installation without any problems. Note that you have to choose the right folder : Fs2002 main folder and not FS2002/AIRCRAFT folder.
If you chose a manual installation here are the most common answers to why it has failed :

Q - After installation I get an error message about YLF50_engines.gau.

A - Your manual installation is not complete. Two available solutions :
1 - Use the automatic installation as described above.
2 - Complete the installation by putting the FSSound.dll file into your FS2002\MODULES folder.
In case of manual installation, check that it's well the file and not a subfolders which is installed. Depending of your setting the *.dll files can stay invisible, that is why we advise you to use the automatic installation.

DOOR

Q - How to shut the doors ?

A - You have to turn on the PANEL light. Press the "L" key (all lights) or "Shift+L" (panel light) or the "panel" switch on the overhead.

RADIOS

Q - I'm not able to adjust the radio frequencies.

A - Installing an FS2000 airplane in your FS2002 the FS2000 737-400.gau overwritten the FS2002 gauge. You have to put the original one (2229Ko) in your FS2002\gauges folder. It's available in your FS2002 disc N1\FS2002.cab file.

VIEW POINT

Q - From the pilot seat, using the fixed views, I'm placed inside the cabin.

A - In the "full" version the fixed views are from your last 3D view position. So prior you have to adjust the pilot view point using setting as suggested in the "virtual interior" section of the manual.

Q - How do I avoid being relocated inside the cabin pressing the spacebar ?

A - Instead of the spacebar press the "numpad 8" key or "Shift+numpad 8" key (depending your setting).

Q - How to permanently alter the default view point to start from the pilot seat?

A - Using Notepad replace this line into the Falcon 50's aircraft.cfg file
[Views]
eyepoint=15.70,-1.45,2.4
with
[Views]
eyepoint=23.,-1.45,2.4

Beware, after this alteration walkthrough will be limited.

INSTRUMENTS

Q - I can't see any instruments on the main panel except a static ADI.

A - You have copied the entire GAUGES folder from the zip file into your FS2002\GAUGES folder instead of just the contents, in which case you will find an extra GAUGES folder inside the FS2002\GAUGES folder.
Copy or move the CONTENTS ONLY from this extra GAUGES folder into your FS2002\GAUGES folder and then delete the extra GAUGES folder. BE CAREFUL not to delete the original FS2002\GAUGES folder!

Q - A few gauges are missing on the panel.

A - You are using the FS2002 standard version but sorry, we released it for the "pro" version.

Q - Some gauges seem not functionning.

A - You have to press the avionic switch. From the 2D panel, it is the white button located at bottom of the HSI.

Q - I don't know how to find the normal instruments after using the magnified ones.

A - You have to use the button located at the upper right side of the altimeter.

Q - The compass and the HSI show different indications.

A - You're using the gyro precession option so you have to readjust it from time to time pressing the 'D' key.

TAKE OFF

Q - I can't take off.

A - Check your trim adjustement, its control is located near the left upper corner of the weather radar. Make sure to trim up slightly (with the pointer level with the bottom part of the small white marker on the trim gauge).

AUTOMATIC PILOT

Q - Why do the digits in the autopilot not increment/decrement properly when the overhead panel is open?

A - A new overhead gauge included in our second patch corrects this problem.

Q - When MCH or SPD hold is activated it is capturing the current aircraft speed instead of the preset value.

A - Two new AP gauges included in our second patch correct this problem.

MISCELLANEOUS

Q - The aircraft is installed and I can see it in the FS2002\AIRCRAFT folder but it does not appear in the Select Aircraft menu.

A - You have to reinstall the default Learjet. The Falcon uses the Lear sound files and it will not appear if the is not properly installed.

Q - What are the FSnav setting for the Falcon 50?

A - Only on average :

IAS, cruise: 330 / fuel:1640 lbs/h
climb: 260 / fuel:3300 lbs/h
touch-down: 131
Alt: 35000ft
climb: 1700fpm
desc: 2100 / fuel: 700 lbs/h

Q - Why are the controls for #1 and #2 engines reversed on my keyboard/controller ?

A - Flight Simulator always uses the sequence 1, 2, 3 (left to right) for the "Ctrl E" auto start which is incorrect for the Falcon. The correct sequence is 2, 1, 3 (centre, left, right) as the #2 engine acts as an Auxilliary Power Unit so is always started first. To force a correct "Ctrl E" auto start the #1 and #2 engines along with their controls and indicators have been physically reversed in the model. As a result the keyboard/controller controls for these two engines are reversed.

Q - How to display the ATC window from VC ?

R - Press the "'" (accent) key.

Q - Some textures are blurred, I can't read the text inside the cabin.

R - Older video cards may not be able to display large sized textures well. In any case we advise at least 32Mo of graphic memory.

Q - The left and right motion commands indicated on the Welcome plaque seem reversed.

R - That's true, sorry, the instructions for moving left and right are reversed in English.

Q - The panel Gear up/down handle doesn't work.

R - The control lever has a mouse controlled guard than can be flipped into place to prevent the handle from being accidentally moved. Check it is unlocked.

Q - Why does the Falcon suspension go crazy at some airports ?

A - From reports it seems that for some users FS2002 put holes in certain taxiways, which are exaggerated by tailwind conditions. Please note that Falcon 50 manufacturers data specifies a Limiting Tailwind Component of 10 KNOTS and Demonstrated Crosswind Component of 23 KNOTS. We have taken steps to minimise this phenomenon, and most users will only encounter this problem on a small minority of airfields. The majority of airports, especially those in the Falcon's normal category, do not have holes in their tarmac. If you experience suspension instability at some airports, you will find in most cases that keeping your taxi speed low will solve this problem. FS2002 seems to handle tailwinds badly and the wing "interferes" with suspension data with a cross or tail wind. We have tested this patch at most major airports and we find that the problem arises with a low fuel load and/or with high tailwinds.

REALISM SETTINGS & GENERAL AERODYNAMICS

We designed the Falcon 50 to fly with the realism slider set to maximum. (In your aircraft/realism menu, the main realism slider is the one at the top, and maximum is slider fully right). The reason we recommend this is because the Falcon behaves with more fluidity in this mode; yaw and roll have more inertia, especially at low speeds fully loaded with fuel, and will give you a much more challenging flight particularly on approach and landing.

If you experience bad suspension problems, please try disabling crash detect and "aircraft damage due to stress". In normal flying neither of these two are likely to happen.

TIPS ON TAKE-OFF, CLIMB AND LANDING

Though powerful in the right circumstances, the Falcon 50 is an older jet and does not have excessive power especially when fully loaded with passengers and fuel. If you are taking off fully loaded, acceleration will be quite slow and you will need a reasonably long runway (Meigs is far too short when fully loaded). Make sure to trim up slightly (with the pointer level with the bottom part of the small white marker on the trim gauge). At 116 knots rotate smoothly back and if trim is correct the Falcon will take off very elegantly. Clean up the gear and flap as soon as possible and climb at NO MORE than 1500 fpm until you have cleaned the slats and accelerated to well over 200 knots. Now you can set the maximum possible climb rate of 3400 fpm (after further acceleration to 230 knots plus). Do not let the thrust exceed 97-98%. You will need to gradually reduce your climb rate as you pass 8000 feet. At 10,000 feet you can increase thrust to a constant 98% N1 then at 20,000 feet increase again to 99% maximum.

The last stage of climb, from 30,000 feet up to the cruise of 35,000 feet will need no more than around 1000 fpm and you must keep the speed here to at least 260 knots or mach 0.72 to 0.74. At FL350 accelerate (slowly) to Mach 0.80 cruise and set no more than 98% N1 to maintain this speed.

On Landing, the Falcon Gear and Flaps have a lot of drag and the aircraft will react slowly to thrust changes and control inputs with a high weight. With full flaps and gear down you will need as much as 75-76% power to maintain glideslope.

Please note, we designed the Falcon to feel heavy with high loading. With a light fuel load and high speed (300 knots plus) the Falcon becomes much more lively and at this weight and speed you can actually achieve (with a little trim) a rapid climb whilst pulling up to 5 G. Similarly the previous sedate roll authority will increase with less fuel in the wings and less weight.
